Being trained in food photography was one of the most fun experiences of my life. I interned with Catherine Murray in Columbus, Ohio while working a corporate job as well and it was a blast. Helping her with her Mini Cookbook inspired me to create my own cookbook. I owe a lot to Catherine, she taught me more than I ever learned in a classroom. Plus, she fed me good foods and didn't judge my pickiness.
This year, my boyfriend joined an outlaw country/southern rock band called Laurel, Knox and the Whitleys. It started slow with the guys practicing in the garage, but as they started booking shows, people started asking them to come more places and now we spend the majority of our weekends playing music. Well, they're playing music. I'm just there to take photos and carry guitars. But I wouldn't have it any other way.
I'm super passionate about shopping local and supporting local farmers. My dad is the President of our local Farmers Market, so I dedicate a lot of my time down there talking with the farmers and volunteering at events. I also run all of the social media for the market to bring awareness to what is going on to everyone in my home town.
One of our big events is the Farm Feast every August and I create all of the marketing materials and tickets for the event. From designing the rack cards and menus, to hand-stamping all 200 tickets, it's always so much fun and a great way to take charge and design something the way I want it to be designed.
That being said, I also work with some of the farmers to help them grow their market. One farmer in particular, Sustainable Harvest Farm, works with me a lot to promote their CSA packages and spread awareness of the benefits of eating organically grown vegetables.
One of my favorite things (other than food) to photograph, is products both in packaging and out.
One of my biggest and best clients is Rock Bottom Soap Company here in London, KY. I love when my clients are no longer clients, but they're friends that I'd do anything for. I do all of her label design, her marketing materials, I manage her website, I keep her social media up to date, and I work her store whenever she needs help!
Her products are simply incredible and I use them daily. Her brand and products are so closely aligned with mine that working for her is seamless and so much fun to work on. Soap isn't the same as food, but it's a lot easier to work with and usually turns out better anyways!
I just completely redid her entire website, so go check it out at rockbottomsoap.com!
Portraits are super important to me because it's a way to express my style while capturing the essence of the person in the photograph.
Dessert is always where my heart lies, no matter what. And as much as I love photographing dessert, eating is obviously my favorite.
That being said, most of these photographs are from my cookbook, From Our Farm to Your Table that I published back in 2015. You can buy a copy on Amazon if you're interested!
I have dreams to create another cookbook VERY soon. I'll keep you updated with more news on that. Or if you want to publish a cookbook and need help with photos and formatting, I'm your girl!
Custom logos are always super fun and super stressful for me. It's hard to capture a brand in one logo, but I love doing them. Here's a small collection of some that I have done, but I'm always interested in expanding my portfolio and trying something new!
As a photographer, I want to document the beautiful things in life along with the not so beautiful. I try to share my point of view with the rest of the world.
T-Shirt design is one of my favorite things because I love being able to wear my artwork! I actually design shirts for a friend of mine that has a screenprinting business, PBJ Shirts. Some of my designs are for his clients, and some are mine that I send to him. Collaboration is key in this line of work, because none of us can do it all!
They say breakfast is the most important meal of the day, right? I skip it anyways, but I do love to document it!
Wildcat Harley Davidson hires me every year to photograph their birthday bash and it never disappoints. There's always food and live music and this year there was a stunt guy there doing tricks on a dirt bike. Then when it starts to get dark, several of the employees ride bikes out and do burnouts for the crowd to watch and kick off the fireworks.
The burnout is always a challenge to photograph because it's nearly dark, there's smoke and people everywhere and this year I had a bunch of rubber embed itself in my legs and on my lens. However, I always do my best and there is always a few killer shots that I print off and give to the owner.
